XHHW Wire for Construction
GERITEL
Nov 10,2025
In modern building electrical systems, the performance of wires and cables directly affects the safety and reliability of the entire project. With the expansion of building scale and the increase in electrical load, the performance of traditional PVC insulated wires in high-temperature, humid, or high-load environments is gradually failing to meet the demands. At this point, XHHW wires (Cross-linked Heat and Water Resistant Wire) are used in building electrical systems due to their excellent heat resistance, moisture resistance, and insulation properties. Main applications of XHHW wire in building systems:
Main Power Distribution System
In high rise buildings, commercial complexes, and industrial plants, XHHW wire is commonly used in the main power feeder, i.e., the circuit that transmits power from the main switch gear to each floor or distribution box. Due to its high temperature resistance, XHHW can safely carry large currents, reducing energy consumption and heat generation.
Branch Circuits and Lighting Systems
In branch circuits such as lighting, power sockets, and air conditioning systems within buildings, XHHW is laid through conduits, allowing for flexible installation in confined or curved spaces. Its thicker insulation layer effectively prevents short circuits and mechanical damage, improving system reliability.
Humid and Underground Environments
The "W" in XHHW represents its waterproof performance, making it particularly suitable for: underground parking lots, basement power distribution, pipe shafts, pump rooms, machine rooms, rooftop and outdoor equipment power supply, etc. Compared to ordinary PVC insulated wires, XHHW maintains stable electrical performance in humid environments and is less prone to insulation aging or leakage current.
Emergency and Backup Power Supply Systems
In critical locations such as hospitals, data centers, and schools, XHHW / XHHW-2 is used for emergency power supply (EPS/UPS) systems and backup generator connection lines. Its high insulation strength and low dielectric loss allow for rapid and reliable switching of emergency power supply systems during power outages.
High-Temperature Areas and Computer Rooms
Because XHHW uses XLPE insulation, it can operate continuously in high-temperature environments up to 90°C, making it ideal for motor control centers (MCCs), boiler rooms, air conditioning rooms, and mechanical equipment control circuits, etc.

In building electrical design, XHHW / XHHW-2 wires, with their superior heat resistance, moisture resistance, and insulation properties, have become the preferred material for main power transmission and high-load circuits in modern buildings. Whether in commercial complexes, high-rise residential buildings, industrial parks, or data centers, XHHW can provide buildings with reliable, safe, and long-lasting power protection.
