PE-insulated ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) cable is an overhead line product consisting of a stranded aluminum conductor reinforced with a steel core and an outer polyethylene (PE) insulation layer. It combines the excellent conductivity of aluminum with the mechanical strength of the steel core, while the PE insulation provides resistance to acids, alkalis, moisture, salt spray, and ultraviolet radiation.

Advantages of ACSR cable
PE-insulated ACSR cables consist of multiple strands of hard-drawn aluminum wires concentrically stranded around a galvanized steel core. The aluminum conducts electrical energy, while the steel core provides mechanical strength and tensile support. PE insulation layer offers excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, salts, moisture, and organic solvents, as well as resistance to ultraviolet radiation, abrasion, and environmental impacts.

APPLICATIONS
PE-insulated ACSR cables are primarily used in overhead power transmission and distribution systems, and are particularly suitable for applications where both electrical transmission and mechanical support are required. Their design is adaptable to various climates and environments, including humid, high-temperature, strong sunlight, and corrosive conditions, widely used in overhead lines of urban and rural power networks.

Overhead Power Transmission
In coastal and island areas, high salt spray levels in the air easily corrode ordinary bare ACSR conductors, affecting conductor lifespan and line safety. PE-covered ACSR cables have an additional polyethylene protective layer on the outside of the conductor, effectively isolating it from salt spray, moisture, and humid air, providing long-term protection for the aluminum wire and steel core.

Industrial
In industrial parks such as chemical plants, steel mills, and cement plants, the air may contain corrosive gases and dust, which are highly corrosive to bare conductors. The outer sheath of PE-covered ACSR cables can prevent chemical contaminants from directly contacting the conductor, preventing surface oxidation and steel core corrosion.

Urban Power Distribution
In urban power distribution network renovation projects, overhead lines are close to buildings, metal structures, and roadside trees, posing risks of accidental contact and short circuits. PE-covered ACSR cables, through their insulated or semi-insulated sheath design, reduce safety hazards caused by accidental contact, improving the safety and reliability of line operation.

Tree-Based Transmission
In forests, hilly areas, or agricultural areas, overhead conductors are prone to contact due to tree growth or wind swaying. The polyethylene coating of PE-covered ACSR cable effectively reduces damage to the conductor caused by tree branch scratches and lowers the risk of short circuits or tripping due to momentary contact.
